Welcome to Memory Foam Mattress Comfort
If you haven't yet tried a memory foam mattress, then there is a treat in store for you! These mattresses have been praised as the most comfortable thing around for getting great nights of sleep. They're especially good for people whose bodies need solid support, yet who can't handle extremely hard sleeping surfaces. The mattresses are made of what is called visco elastic foam, and when you understand how that foam works, then you will know why they are so comfortable.
Visco elastic memory foam is comprised of tiny, spherical, weight and temperature sensitive cells. As the cells heat up, they soften and spread pressure, which means that as you lie down on a memory foam mattress, your body heat makes the initially firm substance of the foam relax and conform to your own shape. Once your heat is removed, the tiny cells firm up again and return to their original shape. This, as you might imagine, is where memory foam gets its name.
The end result for the sleeper is that a memory foam mattress relieves pressure points on the body; those areas that press harder into the mattress. These points are why people can get stiff even while supposedly relaxing in sleep, and are also the places where they develop bedsores if they are bedridden for quite some time. Visco elastic memory foam supports every part of the body equally, so no part of it is pressing into the mattress harder than any other.
What all of this information means, in the end, is that even the pressure points of the body that push harder into a mattress than other points do (things like hips, for example) are relieved on a memory foam mattress. Since the entire body is supported equally, this can help those with arthritis and even bedsores. A memory foam bed might be just the thing you're looking for if you want to sleep without getting stiff and sore.
